DAY 3: Break Your Goals Down

In order to get to that big, impossible goal without feeling overwhelmed or stuck you need to break your goals down into smaller steps.

You break it down into what you can do today and focus on the very first possible step.

So even though the goal is big and maybe scary, the daily actions are possible and doable.

You can’t set a goal to lose 30 pounds and expect to lose 5 on the first day.

Being the very best version of yourself doesn’t happen overnight, but taking the first step can.

Identify clear starting steps for each of your goals.

Keep in mind… Goals are messy. Life is messy. This is just life on earth.

If you wait for things to be perfect or until you feel “ready” you will never start.

Start taking baby steps towards those big goals and dreams.

Give each of your big goals a deadline. Pick a date when you want to have accomplished this goal or select milestone dates to assess your progress.

Create deadlines

Here’s where a yearly calendar will help you. My personal favorite that I’ve used for the past few years is the Day Designer calendar. I’ve used both the smaller size and the larger version.

Start with your big yearly events, deadlines, or tasks you know are coming up for the year.

Then do this for each month, meetings, deadlines, travel, tasks, etc.

Then the real biggie is next. Your daily activities. Be very intentional about what you are doing each week/day.

Remember to be realistic too. Being active every day is a great goal, but don’t expect to do 2-hours of intense workouts every day. Maybe you do 30 minutes of cardio (walking, running, swimming, etc) on 3 days of the week, a strength workout 2 days a week, and one day each week of active recovery (stretch, yoga).

Everyday does not have to look the same, but over the course of the week what do you want to accomplish and which days do you have the time available to focus on these tasks?
