Have you tried oat milk? Here’s the truth about oat milk:
Although it has been around for quite some time, oat milk has recently gained more popularity as a dairy-free milk alternative.
Oat milk is marketed as being beneficial for weight loss. But there is a little more to the story…
While oat milk is a great source of fiber, can make you feel full (which can lead to eating less), and is arguably the best-tasting milk alternative – consumption can actually be counterproductive to weight loss if you aren’t aware of a few things.
The Truth About Oat Milk:
🥛 Oat milk is higher in calories than other milk alternatives. One serving of oat milk contains around 120 calories, compared to about 30 calories in a one-cup serving of almond milk.
🥛 Oat milk is higher in carbohydrates than other milk alternatives. One serving of oat milk contains around 16 grams of carbohydrates, compared to around 1.4 grams found in almond milk.
🥛 Oat milk is lower in protein than milk alternatives derived from nuts or legumes.
Weight loss is based on a calorie deficit – which means that you burn more calories than you consume. Consuming a high-calorie drink that contains more carbs and fewer nutrients than other alternatives means that you have to burn more calories in order to lose weight.
So will having a glass of oat milk completely destroy your weight loss plans? No.
Like so many things when it comes to eating healthy and weight loss know what you are putting in your body and moderation is key.
