Satisfaction and Enrichment at Work

Occupational wellness is the general satisfaction and enrichment that an individual derives from his or her work. The role you play within your organization or company affects your overall wellness.

In order to obtain occupational wellness, you need a sense of “meaning” in what you do in your job. We need to find regular satisfaction and enrichment at our work.

Scientific studies show a notable correlation of increased levels of depression, sleep problems, stress, worry, and lower mental health scores in people who report lower job satisfaction when compared to those who report high job satisfaction.

It’s important to identify your occupational goals. What field do you find personal satisfaction in and what sort of work environment you can thrive in? If your current position does not meet any of those areas, it may be time to do some evaluation.

That being said – you can increase your satisfaction and enrichment, or occupational wellness, (and therefore overall wellness) in ANY position.

The key is to identify your special gifts, talents, and skills and determine how you can best use those tools in your job.

While you may not always find the most meaning in the actual tasks that you complete at work, you can add meaning to the WAY that you complete those tasks. By focusing on how you are using your specific talents, there is an opportunity for your own personal development in EVERY task that you complete.

Your attitude about work can positively or negatively impact your occupational development and wellness.
