The body’s circadian rhythm is a 24-hour sleep & wake cycle.

Getting enough sleep is critical in order to recharge the body’s energy stores, repair damaged cells, maintain physical and mental health, build muscles, and fight illnesses. Sleeping is essential to your health.

When your circadian rhythm is thrown off, your body’s systems don’t function properly.

Here are 6 natural ways to help your circadian rhythm:

  1. 🛀 Have a bedtime routine that includes something relaxing such as reading, meditating, or a warm bath.
  2. 🛌🏼 Sleep in a dark, cool, and comfortable room – maybe try aromatherapy
  3. ☀️  Expose yourself to plenty of sunlight during the day, ideally within 30 minutes of waking up.
  4. 📵  Avoid devices and blue light before bed. Research has found a correlation between exposure to blue light and lower levels of melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone responsible for controlling your sleep-wake cycle. Darkness causes the body to produce more melatonin, which signals the body to prepare for sleep. Light decreases melatonin production, which signals the body to prepare for being awake. So when your body runs low on melatonin – especially at night when the body should be producing it – you can experience insomnia, tiredness during the day, and irritability.
  5. 👹  Avoiding anything stressful in the few hours before bed such as violent or scary movies or exercise.
  6. 🍽️  Avoid eating right before bed. The body will be working to digest the food down instead of relaxing.

One thing I have added to my bedtime routine is potassium, magnesium, and calcium supplement. This is helping tremendously with muscle cramps (charlie horses) and generally helps me fall asleep faster.
